Materials Processing Institute, the leading UK steel and materials research and innovation centre, has become a partner of the Northern Powerhouse.

Joining the Northern Powerhouse Partner Programme reflects the Institute’s commitment to the North and the contribution it makes to the commercial growth and well-being of the region.

The aim of the Partner Programme is to help improve collaboration, infrastructure and investment across the North of England.

Joining the partner programme means Materials Processing Institute now is part of a strong alliance of leading businesses committed to delivering a solid economic future for the North of England.

The Institute, based in Middlesbrough, is globally recognised for the innovation, research and development, and commercialisation of new material, processes and technologies.

Chris McDonald, Materials Processing Institute Chief Executive, said: “Joining as a member of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership programme is testament to our excellent track record in working collaboratively with industrial partners for the greater good of the North and beyond.

Minister for the Northern Powerhouse, the Rt Hon Jake Berry, MP said: “I am delighted to welcome the Material Processing Institute as our latest member of our Northern Powerhouse Partner Programme.

“Their work to enable UK industry to adapt to new technologies builds upon our £126m of Local Growth Investment across Middlesbrough while supporting businesses to prepare for leaving the EU on 31st October.”
