Following the critical acclaim of his debut EP Departure, British saxophonist and composer J Michael Harris returns with a bold new full-length release that pushes the boundaries of contemporary jazz. Melding the groove of electronica with the sophistication of jazz harmony, Harris presents a dynamic collection of original works shaped by the sounds of Robert Glasper, J Dilla, Aphex Twin, Sampha, and Herbie Hancock.
The album features an international cast of elite musicians, including:
- Freddy Sheed – drums, percussion, programming (Lewis Capaldi, The Japanese House, The 1975)
- Jimmy Haslip – bass (Yellowjackets, Allan Holdsworth, Jeff Lorber Fusion)
- Mo Pleasure – piano, Hammond B3 (Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson, Ray Charles)
- Karlos Edwards – percussion (Nitin Sawhney, Spice Girls, Mark Ronson)
- Henry Collins – trumpet (Amy Winehouse, Tom Jones, Van Morrison)
All tracks were composed by Harris, who performs across saxophone, piano, Fender Rhodes, synths, EWI, clarinet, and flute. The album was mixed and mastered by Guy Massey, known for his work with The Beatles, Kylie Minogue, and The Divine Comedy.
About Jamie
Born in Leicester, UK, and now based in London, J Michael Harris (also known professionally as Jamie Michael Harris) is a seasoned performer whose credits span a wide musical landscape. He has collaborated with legends such as Nile Rodgers, Prince Buster, Eddie Henderson, Gary Bartz, Dr. John, and Quincy Jones. His playing, deeply rooted in a love for harmony and lyrical improvisation, reflects his eclectic musical upbringing – from Weather Report and Miles Davis to Paul Simon and Randy Newman.
A Berklee College of Music graduate, Harris honed his craft in Boston before returning to the UK, where his career as both sideman and bandleader has flourished.
This new album marks a significant step in Harris’ evolution as a composer and sonic explorer, inviting listeners into a sound world where jazz meets digital soul.
