A NEW online hub for volunteering opportunities in Stockton Borough has been launched today (Wednesday 1 June).
Launched by Catalyst, a voluntary development agency for Stockton-on-Tees’ voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector, the website brings together a host of volunteering opportunities that are available across the Borough.
The website – www.stocktonvolunteers.co.uk – offers a variety of volunteering opportunities available to all and has been created by Catalyst in partnership with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
It also includes information on how people with disabilities, over 65s and refugees and asylum seekers can also get involved in volunteering.
Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Access, Communities and Community Safety, said: “Volunteering can be a very rewarding and satisfying experience, whatever amount of time you can give, to have a positive impact on the lives of people within our community.
“It also offers people the chance to gain new skills and experience, improve self-confidence and benefit from training opportunities – all the while meeting new people in a welcoming environment.
“I’d encourage anyone thinking about helping others in their community or who would like to make a real difference to other people’s lives to visit the Stockton Volunteers website and explore the range of opportunities available.”
June also marks the inaugural ‘Volunteer Month’ in Stockton Borough with a programme of activities planned including opportunities to volunteer with environmental, sports, faith and mental health groups among others.
All of these activities get under way tomorrow (2 June) with the annual Catalyst Achievement Awards at Wynyard Hall, which recognise the outstanding contribution made by individuals and groups in the Borough’s voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.
Organisations, whether private employers or from within the VCSE sector, are also being asked to submit any volunteer opportunities they may have.
