New Volunteers Needed for Inquest Support Service

middlesbrough-moving-forwardA SERVICE that supports those attending inquests is looking for new volunteers.

The Coroners’ Courts Support Service was launched on Teesside last year, offering support to family members and witnesses involved in inquest hearings.

The service – part of a national charity – provides support during hearings as well as talking people through the inquest process and arranging visits to the court in advance.

CCSS Volunteer Co-ordinator Samantha Catt said: “For those dealing with the loss of a close family member or loved inquests can be quite a harrowing process.

“Our volunteers are able to help them understand how the system works and what they need to do.

“So far our volunteers have supported over 30 families attending inquests and reviews.

“They are a great team who really care about people, and do everything to ensure that they are looked after on the day of inquest. I cannot praise them highly enough.”

Volunteers are given a local three-day training course and are asked to commit a minimum of two days a month, with reasonable travel expenses reimbursed for travel to and from court.
