News from British Basketball League – The Wrap

BBL action in March concluded with another exciting weekend of action with the race for the Play-Offs still impossible to predict.

Radisson RED Glasgow Rocks head into April in joint fourth after extending their winning run to six straight. Vincent Lavandier’s side defeated Manchester Giants 73-86 on the road on Thursday before seeing off Leicester Riders in an 89-77 victory at the Emirates Arena to move to 14-11.

Cheshire Phoenix boosted their top eight hopes with an impressive 64-79 win away at Leicester Riders on Friday night. CJ Gettys had 19 points, 16 rebounds and five assists in the road triumph, though the Phoenix then fell to a 75-87 loss at home to Bristol Flyers with 20 points for Justin Gray.

Esh Group Eagles Newcastle picked up another weekend double – this time on the road – as they moved up into second spot. The Eagles held off Worcester Wolves in a 93-96 success before outlasting London City Royals for a 90-97 overtime victory with 34 points from Victor Moses.

Manchester Giants bounced back from their home loss to Glasgow with a 90-98 triumph at fellow Play-Off hopefuls, Plymouth Raiders. Ingus Bankevics fired in 29 points, while Willie Clayton added 20 points and 20 rebounds in the win to leave both sides at 12-15.

Prior to their home loss to Newcastle, London City had enjoyed a 77-74 comeback win against London Lions with Wes Washpun leading his side to victory. The Lions hit back on Sunday as they beat Surrey Scorchers 83-96 to extend the gap at the top with their 21-4 record.

Meanwhile, DBL Sharks Sheffield claimed a convincing 86-66 win at home to Bristol on Friday night for their 14th league win of the campaign to stay ahead in the battle for the top eight.
