Nortech Group is celebrating the success of a rising star in engineering, after one of its young engineers completed a significant industry qualification.
Shelby Laybourn, 21, who is from Hartlepool, has completed her four year advanced apprenticeship course and obtained a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Instrumentation and Control to become a qualified Instrumentation Designer at Nortech.
Shelby joined the Wynyard-based engineering services provider as an Instrumentation Design Apprentice in 2014 and has since completed her apprenticeship studies with support from Stockton-based NETA Training Group, Teesside University, and Hartlepool College.
The HNC has provided Shelby with essential industry-specific skills and experience, including control engineering, further mathematics and computer programming.
Nortech is one of the UK’s leading engineering services providers, with a team of industry professionals possessing experience in the oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical, nuclear, and iron and steel sectors.
Shelby said: “I am delighted to have qualified as an Instrumentation Designer at Nortech, and cannot thank my colleagues enough for their ongoing support. The HNC route has enabled me to gain crucial engineering skills with guidance from experienced industry professionals. My ambition now is to establish myself as a leading woman in STEM in the North East while continuing my career at Nortech.”
