Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Pizza Punks grabs a slice of the action in Newcastle’s booming food and drink sector

A revolutionary new pizza restaurant and bar has announced it is to open its first English outlet in Newcastle upon Tyne creating approx. 30 new jobs.

Pizza Punks, the self-proclaimed artisan wood-fired pizza concept that flies in the face of traditional pizza restaurants, will be bringing its own unique style to the city’s booming food and dining scene this September.

Renowned for its vast array of unusual toppings, Pizza Punks first two restaurants in Glasgow and Belfast have taken the cities by storm, largely thanks to its unusual proposition and an increasing desire from customers to be able to customise dishes.

Set in the heart of Newcastle city centre and located in the former Café Rouge unit on the city’s prestigious Grey Street, Pizza Punk’s new restaurant will open from 4pm on Thursday 6th September following a £400,000 investment.

Inspired by a love of proper pizza, diners will be able to select as many toppings as they like to add to Pizza Punk’s signature handmade sourdough pizza base – all for one set price. With toppings as varied as Newcastle Brown Ale pulled beef and a Full English Breakfast, as well as an extensive vegan, gluten-free and Halal menu, the new offering is guaranteed to deliver anarchy in the oven.

Born in the North East, Owner and Managing Director, Brad Stevens said Newcastle’s thriving food and drink scene made the city a natural choice for the restaurant’s first move into England and will pave the way for further outlets.

“Newcastle is also a vibrant, bustling city and with the rate of new bars and restaurants opening in Newcastle outpacing London, it’s obvious that the food and drink sector in the city is booming. What people really want these days is quality, tasty food that is great value for money – exactly what we offer. It’s a proposition we believe will resonate with those living, working and visiting the city.

“Pizza Punks is essentially an experience; with the food, the drinks, the soundtrack and the atmosphere. Our menu allows people to have whatever they want for a flat fee – we don’t believe people should pay extra to satisfy their taste. Options are endless, and nothing is too different, wacky or ordinary at Pizza Punks – that’s why it’s called a revolution.”

Pizza Punks arrival in Newcastle has been supported by NE1, a company which works to improve business in the city centre.

NE1’s director of communications, Stephen Patterson, commented: “We are thrilled that a popular restaurant like Pizza Punks has chosen to open its first English site on Grey Street. The abundance of new restaurants opening up in Newcastle shows the city is in great demand and is cementing its position as the North East’s number one destination for food and leisure. We hope that Pizza Punks distinctive offering will not only attract new generations of diners into the city, but also ‘punk up’ our current food and drink scene.”

Ahead of the restaurants opening on the 6th September, Pizza Punks is offering a small number of lucky diners the opportunity to try out its menu for half price on Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th September.
