The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 19 May but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar
There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. On Monday 22 May there will be a closure of the southbound exit slip at junction 51 Leeming, a closure of the southbound exit slip and northbound entry slip at Scotch Corner interchange and a closure of the northbound exit slip at junction 56 Barton. On Tuesday 23 May there will be a closure of the southbound exit slip at junction 51 Leeming and a closure of the southbound exit slip at Scotch Corner interchange. On Wednesday 24 May there will be a closure of the southbound exit slip at Scotch Corner interchange. Then on Thursday 25 May there will be a full closure southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51 Leeming Bar. All of these closures take place from 8pm until 6am with diversions in place. This project is due for completion by winter 2017.
A19 Silverlink, North Tyneside
There will be phases of overnight outer ring closures from Monday 22 until Thursday 25 May. There will also be a 24 hour 30mph speed restriction with narrow lanes. This project is due for completion in March 2019.
A19/A66 Stockton Road interchange
The A66 eastbound to the A19 northbound slip road will be closed on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 May. The A66 eastbound to A19 southbound slip road will be closed on Wednesday 23 and Thursday 25 May. All closures will take place between 9pm and 6am and are for the replacement of lighting columns. Clearly signed diversions will be in place.
A19 Osmotherly (A684) to Tontine (A172)
A contraflow will be in operation on the northbound carriageway between the A172 Tontine junction and the A684 Osmotherly junction for resurfacing work. The work will be carried out between8pm and 6am until Friday 26 May. There will be a 24 hour width restriction of 3.5 metres on the northbound carriageway for the duration of the work. A 24 hour 50mph speed restriction will also be in place on both the northbound and southbound carriageway.
