Engineering firms and organisations from across the North East are being invited to showcase their work by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) as it gears up for its annual awards.
The Institution’s Robert Stephenson Awards celebrate engineering excellence and recognise innovation in the art of civil engineering, as well as the wider positive impact nominated projects have on society.
Nominations are open to projects completed or substantially completed in the last two years, with the winners announced at the ICE North East Annual Dinner at the Newcastle Marriott Hotel, Gosforth Park, on 19th April 2018.
Projects with a value of more than £4 million are eligible for the large category, those with a value between £0.5 million and £4 million can be entered into the medium category, and the small category applies to those under £0.5 million.
At the 2017 Robert Stephenson Awards, the A1 Coal House to Metro Centre Improvement was the Large Project category winner, delivered by Balfour Beatty, in partnership with Parson Brinkerhoff and Arup, on behalf of Highways England.
Seymour Civil Engineering, which delivered the Hartlepool Town Wall Scheme, on behalf of Hartlepool Borough Council, won the Medium Project category, while the Nexus Culvert Crossings scheme, delivered by Capita on behalf of North Tyneside Council, claimed the Small Project category.
Penny Marshall, ICE North East Regional Director, said: “The Robert Stephenson Awards recognise the delivery of effective infrastructure projects and promote the very best of civil engineering across the North East. Each year, they are keenly contested by the region’s leading engineering and project management firms, and I am expecting another strong cohort of entries for 2018.
“It is important to showcase the outstanding work in the art of civil engineering throughout the North East, as these projects contribute so much to society and improve people’s everyday lives.”

Entries cost £150+VAT, with ICE North East offering an early bird submission discount of £50 (£100+VAT) for those submitted by 31st December 2017.
