The UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy and Stone, is set to launch its new Retirement Living development on Goosehill, Morpeth this autumn.
Officially announced this week, the developer has decided to name the site, William Turner Court, in tribute to William Turner MA, the widely acknowledged physician who was born in Morpeth in the 16th century.
William Turner MA, who is dubbed to be the father of English Botany, dedicated his life to the study of plants and their medical uses which he published in his book A New Herball. This was the first book ever written in the English language about plants, including reliable descriptions of the species themselves and the places where they grew.
Morpeth also has a herb garden located in Castle Park which is named after the physician to honour his love of natural history.
Liz Green, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone, comments: “Morpeth born William Turner MA made an incredible contribution towards the study of plants and birds in the 16th century. We thought this would make for a fitting tribute to the man who was such an important figure in Morpeth’s rich history, and whose achievements we should celebrate.
“We are looking forward to becoming an integrated part of the Morpeth community, and we believe that our development will play a real part in helping to bring friends and family together in later life, something we feel is important and will bring lots of positive benefits to the area.”
William Turner Court is already proving extremely popular amongst local retirees with its enviable riverside location and exclusive facilities. The development which is currently under construction, will consist of 55 one and two bedroom apartments, alongside beautiful landscaped gardens and convenient on-site parking.
Whilst the new development is beginning to take shape, McCarthy and Stone is on the hunt for a local charity to support in and around the Morpeth area. Community groups and local charities are urged to get in touch by 2nd June 2017, by emailing requests to mccarthyandstone@mccann.com. Please mark your emails ‘Morpeth Community Appeal’ in the subject header and include a detailed description of how the money would be used, along with how to contact.
Facilities at the Morpeth development will include a homeowner’s lounge, ideal for socialising with friends, and a convenient guest suite should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay. A House Manager is also on hand during office hours, to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the development.
Offering stunning riverside apartments, homeowners at the Morpeth development will enjoy unrestricted, beautiful views over Morpeth. With a host of local amenities including a bustling local market held every Wednesday, and a Farmer’s Market held every Saturday, homeowners will find Morpeth the perfect place to retire in the heart of Northumberland.
