Roadworks at Chester-le-Street

Motorists are being warned of roadworks in County Durham this weekend.

Durham County Council is to carry out resurfacing at the C184 Durham Road at Chester-le-Street, this Saturday and Sunday, 25 and 26 November.

The work will require the closure of the road between its junctions with the A167 Hermitage roundabout and Orchard Gardens.

Motorists are advised to take an alternative route from the southern side of the closure, northwards to Ropery Lane roundabout then west onto Ropery Lane and south onto Durham Road and vice versa.

Vehicular access will be maintained for local residents.

Brian Buckley, the council’s strategic highways manager, said: “This work is part of our ongoing programme to ensure our county’s roads are in the best possible shape.

“We appreciate there is never a good time to do roadworks but we have planned it for a weekend when there should be less traffic on the road, to minimise disruption for people.

“We’d like to thank everyone in advance for their patience should they experience any delays.”
