Robinson of England announced as a finalist for Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2019

Newcastle based furniture makers Robinson of England have been announced as a finalist for the prestigious 2019 NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards. Nominated in the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award category Robinson of England will face off against five other local businesses for the award.

Robinson of England founder David Robinson said he was “delighted to be nominated”. Mr Robinson will find out if he has won his category on October 29th. It could be a very special day as it also happens to be Mr Robinson’s birthday.

Specialising in an iconic piece of British furniture, the Chesterfield sofa, Robinson of England have been based in the North East since they started. They have also produced sofas for a range of high profile clients including the Bank of England, Red Bull, Google and ITV with their products being seen in a variety of programmes including Alan Carr’s gold sofa on his chat show.

Robinson not only produce bespoke Chesterfield sofas but also work with vintage chairs and restore old Chesterfield sofas.

Mr Robinson highlighted the North East as a critical aspect of his businesses success, as being based in the North East has been “crucial to obtain skilled craftsmen. We here in the North East are renowned for being exception manufacturers.

“As a business, we are able to maintain very well controlled fixed costs and have an amazing staff who travel from the neighbouring counties. We also have an incredible digital partner here in Newcastle, who plays a pivotal role.”

The other shortlisted regional finalists in the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award category are Brand Ami, Happy Planet Creative Arts CIC, Kick Cards, SeaPigs and Imvelo.

Founder of the NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards, Francesca James said: “looking at the shortlist, I can safely say this is our strongest year yet. We have such a diverse range of businesses in terms of size and industry, and the calibre really is quite incredible.

“I wish each and every single finalist the very best of luck, and look forward to welcoming them to the regional finals.”

The North East has 60 finalists across 11 categories, and the winners will be announced at a special event held at the Baltic art centre later in the year. There are 630 finalists drawn from eight regions of Great Britain, and regional winners will then compete against each other in 13 categories for the national grand prizes. The national winners will be announced during Global Entrepreneurship Week in London in November.
