Rookie Jamal Williams signs with Raiders

Plymouth Raiders have announced the signing of American rookie Jamal Williams to add to their roster for 2018-19.

Williams played college basketball for Sam Houston State and in his senior year averaged 8.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game with a season-high of 13 rebounds coming against McNeese.

Williams helped Sam Houston finish with a 21-15 record across the season finishing fourth in the Southern Conference, featuring in every game at 25.1 minutes per outing.

“I’m thankful for this opportunity and excited to begin my professional career in Plymouth,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to working with Coach James, the rest of the staff, and the players. I plan to get better, make others better, and win.”

Coach James added: “I’m excited about the signing of Jamal Williams. He is a big athletic guard who can play in multiple positions.

“Jamal offensively is a high energy, high tempo player who will score in many different ways as well as create good scoring opportunities for his team-mates.

“He is a tenacious defender that will bring the toughness we need at that end of the court.

“Jamal is another talented young player and I’m looking forward to getting to work with him and the rest of the team.”

Willams’ signing takes Coach James’ roster to nine players alongside, Denzal Ubiaro, Josh Wilcher, Shawn Shelton, Zak Wells, Javis Howard, Joonas Järveläinen, Declan Soukup and Donte Nicholas.

Pre-season for Williams and his fellow team-mates starts on 7 September in France against CEP Lorient with more pre-season news being announced on Thursday.
