Beat the Winter Blues and Avoid Seasonal Affective Disorder
January 2019…// Rudding Park in Harrogate has launched a Sunlight Therapy Room to help spa guests overcome the risks of sunlight deprivation in winter. Available for guests with access to the Roof Top Spa, the Sunlight Therapy Room is ideal at this time of year when many people crave daylight.
According to research*, 29% of Brits suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder in the winter which can cause irritability, a low mood, feelings of despair, difficulty waking up, lethargy during the day, carbohydrates cravings, weight gain and more. The primary cure for Seasonal Affective Disorder is sunlight.
Guests can relax on heated, sculpted loungers in the Sunlight Therapy Room which provides safe ‘sunlight simulators’ that replicate natural sunlight, with the harmful UV rays filtered out. A 20-minute session is recommended as part of the spa experience and benefits include helping to reduce Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), sounder sleep, an increase in energy and vitamin D production, the soothing of aches and pains.
The Roof Top Spa at Rudding Park is the first of its kind in the UK and is meticulously designed to reflect the beauty of its natural surroundings. Natural daylight is a key element when ensuring wellbeing and the use of glass to maximise the natural light is integral in the spa design.
After the Sunlight Therapy Session guests can take in the fresh air as they explore the Roof Top Spa Garden and the extensive range of hydrotherapy and thermal experiences, including bathing in the warming waters of the outdoor Hydrotherapy Infinity Pool and Spa Bath.
