The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle and Sunday for Sammy, the North East-based charity that helps people get a foot up on the entertainment ladder is holding a unique free event that could find the next big comedy writer.

Kevin Wilkinson from Morpeth entered the Sketch for Sammy competition last year and found his writing chosen as the winner and his sketch performed at the recent Sunday For Sammy concerts at Newcastle City Hall.

Judging for this year’s competition takes place at The Stand on Sunday August 7th at 2pm with Geordie legends Tim Healy, Ray Laidlaw, Billy Mitchell and Geoff Wonfor making that all important decision as to who has written the funniest sketch. The winning sketch will be featured in the next Sunday For Sammy Concert in 2018.

The afternoon will feature new comedy sketches by new writers as well as original sketches performed by the Laffalang Gang. Top comedians Steffen Peddie and Josh Daniels will be provide the stand-up links for what will be two hours of non-stop comedy.

Tim Healy, who is a trustee of Sunday for Sammy, explained: “We launched Sketch for Sammy last year and got a tremendous response from dozens of people in the region. Kevin’s winning sketch was performed at the sold-out Sunday for Sammy concerts at Newcastle City Hall and I’m looking forward to seeing some more new talent this August.”

Tickets for this show are free but are limited to 200 on a strictly first come basis.

If you are a budding comedy scriptwriter there’s still time to get your 3 minute long sketches to the judging panel. The sketch theme should be autumn and you have until the end of June to get your entries in.
