One of the North East’s leading catering companies has gone “Back to the Future” and slid into the present for a pair of unique, regional events.

1879 Events Management, a subsidiary of Sunderland AFC, flexed both its creative culinary skills and manpower to successfully cater for two high-profile events on the same day.

First up was the launch of the first ever Wearslide, where 1879 Events Management was hired by Sunderland City Council to provide a bar for more than 2000 visitors enjoying the temporary 100m and 50m water slides at Herrington Country Park.

After that, the team were dispatched to Benfield Motor Group’s new £7m Newcastle showroom, where they catered for over 150 guests at St Oswald’s Hospice‘s 80s-themed fundraiser, Back to the Future – St Oswald’s Does The 1980’s.

This event, inspired by the hit film of the same name set in 2015, offered the chefs at 1879 Events Management an opportunity to showcase their creativity, with a range of dishes based on other icons of the decade.

This included a Top Bun selection of Chris DeBurgher’s homemade burgers and pulled pork sliders, a Miami Rice mild chicken curry and Ferris Beuller’s stroganoff with beef or mushrooms.

Guests at the event also enjoyed Cushty Cocktails, black forest cream slices and Yuppie Puppy frozen daiquiris from 1879’s retro Slush Puppy machine.

Michael Laidler, Sales and Key Accounts Executive at 1879 Events Management, said:  “We’ve worked on a wide range of events over the past three years but these were certainly two of the most unique.

“It was fantastic to be involved in the WearSlide, which proved a great boost for Sunderland, and to offer a little liquid courage or post-plunge refreshment to those taking part.

“It was also extremely satisfying to lend our support to such a worthwhile cause as St Oswald’s Hospice and I know our chefs certainly had fun coming up with the concept for the evening’s street food.”

1879 Events Management, which launched in 2012, offers a wide range of catering and event management services for events taking place across the North East and has lent its expertise to everything from festivals to business awards.
