STAR of the stage Samantha Holden performed classic songs and sang out special requests for music lovers at a Stockton-on-Tees care home.
Ingleby Care Home residents, relatives and staff were treated to a wide-ranging repertoire of 30s, 40s and 50s songs.
Samantha has enjoyed a variety of roles on the stage and was nominated for a National Operatic and Drama Award (NODA) for her performance as Maria in The Sound of Music.
She is a lead soprano for the Tees Valley Gilbert and Sullivan Society as well as performing as the guest female soloist for Billingham Synthonia Male Voice Choir.
Having previously worked as an activities coordinator in a care home, Samantha recognises the importance of music therapy and the positive impact it has on residents and those living with dementia.
She said: “Music is the key to reminiscence; it can unlock long forgotten memories as it transports people back to another place or time. This makes it a great activity for residents, as well as being something that they really enjoy.”
Carol Singleton, manager at Ingleby Care Home, on Lamb Lane, said: “The residents really enjoyed the performance. Many of the songs they remember from their past and they have a revitalising effect on them. Many thanks to Samantha – we hope to see her again soon.”
