Sequins, a sparkling glitter ball and fabulous frocks will all be on display as the High Street store hosts Strictly Comes to Barkers on Thursday, November 10, from 3pm to 7pm.

The glittering event will launch the department store’s newly extended designer womenswear collection on the first floor.

Four dancers from North Leeds Dance Academy – Ping Liem and his partner Roxanne Youman and Ivan Silva Llamas and partner Hayley Davies – will perform the Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble and Jive in the department store.

Ping and Roxanne are both professional dancers and Latin Dance champions, while Ivan and Hayley are also champions and dance on the international circuit.

Northallerton Paralympics rower Laurence Whiteley, who won a gold medal in Rio in the mixed double scull with partner Lauren Rowles, will cut the ribbon to launch the opening of the new designer womenswear department at 3pm.

A red carpet, stretching from the front door through the store to the first-floor women’s designer department will greet customers, who will be able to enjoy a glass of fizz and canapes in The Bistro, before a fashion show featuring clothes and accessories from Barkers’ autumn/winter 2016 collection.

Barkers womenswear buyer Jane Hunter said: “Everyone has been enthralled by this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, and customers often chat about the show when they come into the department store.

“Everyone loves sequins, talented dancers and fabulous make-up, so we thought we would bring some of the Strictly glamour to Barkers.

“Staff will be taking part in a fashion show to show off this season’s must-haves from labels like Armani, Joseph Ribkoff and Ralph Lauren.”

Lucky customers can win more than £1,000 worth of prizes, including shopping vouchers, perfume, designer gift bags and makeovers.
