Stockton Borough School Children Celebrate International Day

Rosebrook Primary SchoolHUNDREDS of children from a Stockton Borough school have joined their community to celebrate cultures from around the world.

500 pupils from Rosebrook Primary School created costumes to represent countries from around the globe and took part in a parade around Roseworth before enjoying cultural performances ranging from Greek dancing to a rendition of ’O sole mio.

The 3-11 year olds then had the opportunity to make and try food from around the world including onion bhajis, tropical fruits and spring rolls.

Headteacher Eddie Huntington, said: “We have organised an International Day parade for five years now and it is always fantastic to see the children playing the drums and waving and greeting all the well-wishers they meet.

“Rosebrook is a very inclusive school.  We celebrate diversity and are always looking for ways to help our children see the opportunities to explore all the world has to offer them in their future lives.”

Meanwhile, children, families and staff participated in a 4km sponsored walk along Seaton Carew seafront on Saturday to raise money for enhanced activities and facilities within the schools Autism Spectrum Disorder unit.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Councillor Ann McCoy, said: “It has certainly been a busy time at Rosebrook and it is wonderful to see the children who learn there have the chance to take part in activities like these.  There is no doubt that these experiences complement and enrich the knowledge, skills and behaviours our young people develop in the classroom and there’s no doubt they thoroughly enjoyed taking part in them too!”

Mr Huntington added: “These children make you feel proud to be part of Rosebrook Primary.  The sponsored walk has raised approximately £200 but the opportunity for the children to feel valued, have fun with others and families and staff to spend time together is priceless.”
