THE streets of Stockton will be brought to life with vibrant colour and carnival rhythms next month.
The SIRF 16 Community Carnival will take place on Saturday 6 August and there is still time to get involved.
A free costume making workshop for families is being held on Saturday 23 July at SPARK which is located on the same site as Our Lady & St Bede Catholic Academy on Bishopton Road West.
An artist will be on hand between 10am and 12pm and 1pm and 3pm to help everyone who attends create stunning head dresses and beautiful costume accessories to wear during the carnival.
The theme of this year’s parade is ‘Mythical Lands and Fantastical Creatures’ and is inspired by tales of weird and wonderful places that have enchanted people throughout history.
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Norma Wilburn, said: “Our Community Carnival is quite something. It is the largest in the Tees Valley and is always a spectacular sight. It’s great that so many people come together every year to be part of it.
“There are plenty of opportunities to get involved and making the costumes in the run up is great fun too.”
The workshops are specifically aimed at families as a special opportunity to engage in creative activity together. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
To book for the workshop or to register your place in the Carnival please contact Lyndsey Stephenson on 01642 527696 orlyndsey.stephenson@stockton.gov.uk
The 2016 SIRF Community Carnival will be held from 12pm on Saturday 6 August and will travel along Stockton High Street and Stockton Riverside.
