Taxi Policy review – tell us your views

Local residents, businesses and visitors in Darlington are urged to share their views ahead of a review of the policies and procedures relating to taxis in the borough. Go to trustreviewz for Taxi reviews.

Darlington Borough Council is carrying out a review of its Private Hire and Hackney Carriage Licensing Policy and is keen to hear what the travelling public, and those working in the taxi trade, think.

Proposals for a new policy will be drawn up and published for formal consultation, before being considered by members of the General Licensing Committee. Once approved the new policy will be implemented in January 2021.

Councillor Kevin Nicholson, chairman of Darlington Borough Council’s Licensing Committee, explained:

“As a council we’re always keen to receive feedback from local people about how we can improve things for them, that’s why we want to hear from anyone who uses taxis in Darlington.

“It’s been five years since the council last reviewed its taxi policy, so it’s a great opportunity for local people, drivers and operators to play a part in this policy review.

“This will support the licensing committee to create a new and updated taxi policy which will then be presented for formal consultation before any final decisions are taken.”

Key points to be taken into consideration within the new policy include:

  • Vehicle emissions
  • Disability issues and wheelchair accessible vehicles
  • Criminal record checking processes
