LEISURE operator The New World Trading Company marked six months in business this June for its Newcastle city centre bar and restaurant venue, The Botanist, and the arrival of a new manager.
Following a record-breaking launch which saw 10,000 diners through the doors in its opening weeks in December, the team is celebrating an incredibly successful first half of the year and a number of appointments.
Located on the top two floors of Monument Mall, The Botanist has seen the introduction of its popular roof garden this spring, which overlooks Grey’s Monument offering a unique vista point and a full-service bar and seating for up to 120 people.
A further 10 jobs have been created as a result and one of which is 28-year-old David Caley who has joined as a manager, bringing the management team to six and the total number of staff to 110.
David, from Newcastle, is very familiar with the local food and hospitality scene in Newcastle having worked in the city centre for 6 years.
David said: “It’s an ideal time to be coming on board with The Botanist as it looks ahead to the next six months – and of course, a lively first summer before that. I’ve already trained in Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle with the company so am looking forward to bringing what I can to the fantastic team that is in place here.”
The Botanist Newcastle has reached its highest number of Facebook likes across the group at over 19,000 and the terrace development has led to increased footfall and improved sales.
Chris Hill, managing director of New World Trading Company, said: “It’s been a whirlwind since we launched The Botanist Newcastle in December – it’s already become one of our most successful venues operating in the UK. The roof garden has certainly added another dimension to the business, further establishing us as a real destination for our customers and visitors to the city.
“Newcastle’s social landscape seems to be ever-evolving so we’re always coming up with new ideas to keep our customers entertained and offer something unique. We’re currently working on some exciting plans to make use of the terrace area throughout the colder season.
“We’re continually looking to recruit across all levels of the business and The Botanist brand will also be expanding with openings in Liverpool and Glasgow later this year, and more locations planned in the near future.”
The New World Trading Company recently celebrated a double win at The Publican Awards national ceremony earlier this year, securing The Best Drinks Offer and The Best Managed Pub Company (2-50 sites).
