On Friday (19 August), Sunderland’s Herrington Country Park will play host to Haçienda Classical – a one night only tribute to dance music classics from the heyday of Manchester’s legendary Haçienda nightclub.
And gig-goers are coming from as far away as Brighton, Glasgow, Canterbury and Bristol for the show, whichpromises acid house hits, played by a full orchestra – with a DJ mix thrown in.
The tracks, by bands such as New Order, Black Box and Marshall Jefferson, have been reinterpreted by the club’s original DJs, Mike Pickering and Graeme Park and will be played alongside the Manchester Camerata Orchestra with performances from the AMC Choir, New Order’s Peter Hook and Happy Mondays’ Rowetta.
“People really are coming from far and wide for this concert – the response has been absolutely incredible,” said Karen Makepeace, in-house promoter for Northern Sessions, which has organised the event.
“And not only will the show be unlike anything we’ve ever staged before but there will be a real festival feel to the evening – it’s going to be a brilliant night.”
