Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Three Richmondshire charities have benefitted to the tune of over £500

chairmans cashThree Richmondshire charities have benefitted to the tune of over £500 thanks to the former Chairmen of the District Council.

During his nine months in office the late Councillor John Robinson raised £944 for local charities. When he sadly died earlier this year his work was topped up to £1600 by his replacement – Councillor Caroline Thornton-Berry.

This week she presented cheques for £533.59 each to St Teresa’s Hospice, the St Mary’s Bell Appeal and the RCVA.

Based in Darlington St Teresa’s Hospice is an independent charity working across South Durham and North Yorkshire providing Hospice at Home, Day Therapy, In-patient Care, Family Support and Bereavement Services.  But helping people at the time of their greatest need depends on donations, legacies and fundraising.

The Richmond Bell Appeal is looking for £160,000. Many towers have fallen silent because of the high cost of repairs and maintenance but at St Mary’s a commitment to safeguard the future of bell ringing has been made – by investing in the restoration of the historic bells and frame.

Richmondshire Community and Voluntary Action is a registered charity and the Local Strategic Development Organisation for the district supporting local charities, community groups and social enterprises throughout the area. It offers a range of services including advice, information, training and all aspects of volunteering and community engagement.
The money was raised through raffles, auctions and tombolas at various events through the year – including the Civic Dinner and Reception.S
