ONE OF THE much-loved highlights of the This Is South Tyneside Festival will be back once again – bold as brass.
Among the many popular aspects of the three month long free festival, is the annual programme of brass band concerts.
And the good news is they will be back once again, held on Sunday from June through to August at the South Shields Amphitheatre.

Kicking off the new season on 1 June – and also performing the final concert on 31 August – are local favourites, Westoe Brass, who regularly play as part of the festival.
On 8 June visitors can enjoy Stanhope Silver Band, followed on the 15 June by Bede Wind and then the People’s Mission Silver Band on 22 June.
The final show of the month will see the Coquet Concert Band take the stage on 29 June, with South Tyneside Music Services performing on 13 July, Trimdon Brass on the 20 July and then Bear Park and Esh on 27 July.
August kicks off with Bright Street Big Band on the 3rd, with Houghton Brass on 10 August. The Felling Band will perform in South Marine Park bandstand on 17 August and then Off Key Music will be at the Amphitheatre on 24 August, followed by Westoe Brass, which will close the brass band series on Sunday 31 August.
All the concerts run from 2pm to 4pm, apart from the three in July (13, 20 and 27) and 3 August, where they will run from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.
The brass band shows are part of a packed programme of entertainment taking place across the borough during the summer months, which includes the popular Sunday Concerts in Bents Park, Kids Fest at the Amphitheatre and Music in the South Marine bandstand.
Councillor Judith Taylor, Lead Member for Culture, Leisure and the Visitor Economy at South Tyneside Council said that the brass band concerts were an integral part of the festival.
“We know how much people love to spend their Sunday afternoons at the amphitheatre, listening to amazing music from some of the most talented brass bands from across the region,” she said.
“It is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the festival and I’m delighted that once again we have such a fantastic line up for people of all ages to enjoy.”
