Following the success of last year’s pilot event, John Dixon, owner of Destinations by John in Whitley Bay, is once again bringing a dedicated Holiday Expo to the Whitley Bay Playhouse — and this year it’s set to be even bigger and better.
The event takes place on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 11am to 3pm, and will transform the Playhouse into a one-stop inspiration hub for holidaymakers from across the North East. Admission is completely free.
Visitors will have the chance to meet leading tour operators, cruise companies, rail specialists and holiday experts face-to-face, with stands in the Playhouse foyer and a programme of live stage presentations throughout the day.
Among those taking part are some of the best-known names in travel, including Wendy Wu Tours, renowned for their escorted holidays across Asia and Europe; Olympic Holidays, offering family-friendly sunshine escapes and Island Hopping experiences from Newcastle Airport; Riviera Travel, specialists in escorted tours across the globe; and Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, known for their small-ship itineraries to destinations such as Norway and the Mediterranean from the Tyne. Rail enthusiasts can also meet representatives from Rail Bookers, while for those looking at holidays in Australia and New Zealand, Anzcro will be on hand to offer their vast experience. Add to the mix Emirates Holidays, Typically Italian and Typically Spain and Portugal and there’s something for everyone.
There will also be experts on hand covering UK breaks, solo holidays, overseas weddings and more.
Several exhibitors will host short talks on stage throughout the day, sharing insider tips, destination highlights and exclusive offers available only at the event.
“Last year’s pilot event was a huge success, with more than 400 visitors through the doors,” said John. “This time we’ve expanded the range of exhibitors and added even more presentations so people can really make a day of it. Whether you’re dreaming of Japan, cruising the Norwegian fjords or exploring the UK by train, there’s something for everyone.”
John recently picked up a Top Seller Award within the Brilliant Travel consortium, part of Barrhead Travel, for outstanding performance with Wendy Wu Tours — a testament, he says, to the agency’s personal service and loyal customer base.

Located just a few doors down from Greggs and opposite Holland & Barrett in Whitley Bay, Destinations by John is a true family business. John works alongside his daughter Fern, offering expert advice and a warm welcome to customers old and new.
The shop is open Monday to Friday, 9:30am–4:30pm, and Saturdays until 3pm. It has a dedicated kids zone with real aircraft seats and they are dog friendly.
