0800 Repair Gas is warning of the dangers of faulty heating systems as temperatures plummet this winter.
With freezing temperatures expected and the Met Office predicting a ‘White Christmas’, Phil Pallister, managing director of 0800 Repair Gas, is advising people to be extra vigilant with their heating appliances and to take the proper precautions, given that demand will be high for Heating & Plumbing professionals during the winter period.
According to research, 40 people are killed and 260 more fall ill as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning related incidents. In addition, the Houghton le Spring-headquartered firm is advising that boiler and gas fires should be regularly serviced by Gas Safe engineers to ensure they are safe.
Phil said: “This is the business end of the year for the industry, with temperatures dropping to below freezing in most areas, and families don’t want to be dealing with any dramas over the festive period. It is essential that you ensure that your heating appliances are in good, working order, now more than ever, as the chances are that installers and engineers will be high in demand.
“It also important, when going away to visit family and friends, that your heating is left on, or at least on a low setting for a couple of times a day. This will help prevent pipes freezing. Maintenance is key and the little things will often keep you free from problems with your heating appliances and additional, unwanted costs.”
Phil added: “Carbon monoxide poisoning is another issue, which is not to be taken lightly. Boilers should and need to be serviced and checked regularly – regardless of the season – to guard against the ‘silent killer’.”
