Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is installing a brand new timber play tower at Windmill Park, close to Ingleby Mill Primary School.

The park, off Windmill Way near Barwick Way and Low Lane, is designed for children up to around 12 years old. Once complete, the new three-storey tower will have an access ramp, ladder, balconies, a slide, and a Perspex dome window on the top platform.

Pupils from nearby Ingleby Mill Primary School were involved in the original park design as part of their schoolwork with local artist, Gilmar Ribeiro, and have also helped to come up with the ‘windmill’ theme of the new structure.

Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “Windmill Park is already a much-loved play area so I have no doubt the new windmill tower feature will be a very popular addition.

“Many of the pupils from Ingleby Mill Primary School have been involved with the design of the tower so there are a lot of new and exciting features for children to enjoy. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished windmill – once complete it will be a lovely centrepiece at the park.”

The windmill tower will join the park’s existing timber climbing frame, roundabout, goalposts and swings.
