Staff and children at Yarm School Pre-Prep ditched books for bopping when they took part in a charity danceathon.

The school held the charity event in aid of Bliss and Diabetes UK. Teachers and staff were joined by the children for part of the event as they danced for six hours to various genres of music, raising £1400 which will be split between the two charities.

The money raised for Bliss will help its work towards providing care and support to premature and sick babies alongside their families. Diabetes UK will use the funds towards caring for, and campaigning on behalf of, all people affected by diabetes.

Mrs Joanne Speight, Head of Yarm Pre- Preparatory School, said: “We chose dancing because it was something everyone could get involved with. The staff have been incredibly enthusiastic and were determined to include the children in the fundraising and everybody had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

“Both charities are close to our hearts. Bliss supported the family of one of our teaching assistants so it is fantastic that we are able to give something back to enable more families to be supported at a difficult time in their lives
