Residents across Hambleton are being urged not to lose their right to vote.
Individuals who have been recently added onto the electoral ‘household enquiry form’ are being urged to complete and return the council’s ‘individual registration form’ as soon as possible.
“If your name has been added to the household enquiry form it does not mean that you have been registered to vote,” said Phillip Morton, Electoral Registration Officer.
“We need you to complete and return the individual registration form that has been sent to you, so that we can add you to the Register of Electors, which then gives you the right to vote.
“In the past the head of a household had been responsible for registering everyone living at the address, but the new registration system which came into force last year, means everyone has to register as an individual. You do need to provide us with this information, if you don’t, you could be fined £80.”
The form can also be completed on line at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
