YOUNG people’s views and concerns will be put at the heart of council decision making thanks to the Borough’s first Youth Manifesto.
The manifesto, drawn up by young people currently sitting on Stockton’s Youth Assembly, was approved by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet at its meeting on Thursday, 19 May.
It sets out five key priorities – employment and education, health and wellbeing, giving young people a voice, supporting UK Youth Parliament campaigns, and promoting the next UK Youth Parliament election – identified during consultation with young people across the Borough.
Councillor Ann McCoy, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Over recent years the Council has worked to increase the role of the Borough’s young people in influencing and shaping services which affect their day to day lives. This manifesto goes a step further, and sets out what young people across Stockton Borough want to see and what they would like us, as decision makers, to do to improve their lives.
“We thank the current members of the Youth Assembly and Stockton’s Member of the UK Youth Parliament and her deputy for their time creating this manifesto and we commend their efforts to bring positive change to the issues which matter to them most.”
