THE public’s views are being sought over the future of a key part of Middlesbrough.
The Marton West Neighbourhood Plan is the first plan to be submitted to Middlesbrough Council under new neighbourhood planning arrangements.
The Plan has been drawn up by the Marton West Neighbourhood Forum, which is made-up of local residents and other stakeholders.
The document – which covers the area’s historical context and development, ethos and character and future direction – will now be subject to a six-week public consultation event within the ward.
The consultation runs from Friday, January 15 to Thursday, February 25, with local residents and other stakeholders invited to make representations on the plan.
Neighbourhood planning was introduced by the Government under the Localism Act 2011 which enables local communities to prepare a Neighbourhood Plan for their area, with support from the Council.
Following an examination by an independent examiner a referendum will be held.
If more than 50% of those residents/stakeholders vote ‘yes’ in the referendum the Neighbourhood Plan comes into force and becomes part of the Council’s planning framework documents, along with being a material consideration in the determination of any planning applications that are received for that neighbourhood plan area.
Copies of the plan and representation forms are available to download from the Council’s Planning Services webpages at www.middlesbrough.gov.uk
A limited number of hard copies of the plan will also be available at the reception area at Lingfield School (Buxton Avenue), Marton Library (The Willows), Marton News (Woodrow Avenue) and the Tesco Express Store (Marton Road).
Copies of the Plan can also be accessed via the Council’s consultation portal at http://consult.middlesbrough.gov.uk/portal where representations can also be submitted. Submissions can also be sent by email to planningpolicy@middlesbrough.gov.uk
