Two children can win the chance to learn to swim for free this Easter holidays.
Five of Durham County Council’s leisure centres are all offering “crash courses” to introduce non swimmers to the water, or improve children’s abilities in the pool.
Cllr Maria Plews, the council’s cabinet member for leisure, libraries and lifelong learning, said: “These courses are a great opportunity for children to get more active while learning an essential life skill.
“Children love getting in the water and enjoying themselves – yet drowning is one of the most common causes of accidental death for young people, so being able to swim is a must.
“Swimming is lots of fun for all ages and also provides loads of health benefits which can help to keep your children healthy and happy at the same time.”
Swimming crash courses will take place at Chester-le-Street, Freeman’s Quay in Durham City, Woodhouse Close in Bishop Auckland, Newton Aycliffe and Teesdale leisure centres.
To be in with a chance of winning one of two free places for your child to take part in them please send the following details to sportandleisure@durham.gov.uk.
We need your child’s name, age, current swimming ability, whether they already take part in the council’s Aqualearn programme, and your preferred pool.
The closing date for entries is Friday 18 March.
