CQC praise for “Good” Peterlee care home

A PETERLEE care home has received high praise following an independent assessment by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Inspectors visiting Bannatyne Lodge Care Home, on Manor Way, spoke to more than a dozen residents and relatives, observed staff and reviewed records during their unannounced visit.

The home received an overall rating of “Good” following the review, with the same rating across all five key areas of the report, including safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership.

The report stated: “People told us they were happy with their care at Bannatyne Lodge. Staff were kind and caring and the home was well managed.

“People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible.

“Staff had developed caring relationships with people and respected their privacy and dignity. People’s independence was promoted. Staff ensured people maintained links with their friends and family.

“People’s care was based on detailed assessments and person-centred care plans. A range of activities were available. People felt confident raising concerns and complaints had been dealt with effectively.”

The home’s residents stated in the report: “Everything they do keeps me safe, it’s a secure place”, “The carers are lovely”, “They [staff] are very willing with everything” and “staff are professional and polite”.

Relatives also complemented the home, saying: “We get coffee and cake when we come here” and “The atmosphere is friendly. We are welcomed. The food is good. Staff tell you to come for lunch and tea.”

One relative told inspectors: “I go to the meetings. I am listened to. I ask questions and get a reply. I feel involved.” Another added: “They would change something if you didn’t like it.”

Lynn McMillan, home manager at Bannatyne Lodge Care Home, said: “We are delighted to receive a “Good” rating following our latest CQC inspection, which recognises the hard work of staff to provide a first-class service for our residents.”
