Philip Singer, known artistically as METAPHYSICAL is more than an independent hip-hop artist — he’s a living testament to resilience, transformation, and self-made success. Born in Pasadena and raised in California’s Central Valley, Philip’s life story reads like a film script: five high schools in four years, addiction in his teens, military service, homelessness, epilepsy, and a near-fatal car accident in 1994 that left him in a coma for nearly a month.

Now based in Hollywood, Philip is rising with a renewed mission — to turn his pain into power. “I had to relearn how to walk and talk. Doctors warned me of the aftermath, and they were right. But I’m still here,” says the artist, who proudly lives with epilepsy and uses his platform to offer support and hope to others with the condition.
After battling addiction and years of untreated seizures — which left him with injuries including a broken nose and jaw — Philip found healing through music, faith, and finally accepting medical treatment. “I haven’t had a seizure in years now. I have a driver’s license. I’m blessed to be alive,” he says.
He’s also diving into business with his beverage brand, H I G H Ice Tea, already stocked by Kroger. “It’s delicious – just shake before you serve,” he laughs. “I hope to be on stage soon with a bottle in hand, tossing them to the crowd.”
Philip is a proud U.S. Army veteran (M.O.S. 92 Bravo – cook), a songwriter, and the founder of Fred Sanford Music Publishing Group. He blends his love for old-school soul and the hippie spirit with powerful lyrical storytelling. Despite facing systemic hardships — including time spent unhoused and a traumatic police encounter in 2021 — his message is clear: never quit.
In memory of his late sister, and for every person living through trauma, Philip turns tragedy into triumph. “I pray for everyone in my generation. We’re all alive right now — that’s a blessing in itself.”
With a trunk full of handwritten lyrics, a soulful brand, and a story ready for the big screen, METAPHYSICAL is building more than a music career — he’s creating a movement.
