SPECIALIST retailers are taking over ownership of one of the most important days on the American calendar.
July 4 is Independence Day in the US but now, retailers in North East will be using it to celebrate Independents’ Day.
Independents’ Day, which is a national initiative held as part of Independent Retailer Month, is designed to help celebrate the UK’s bespoke stores and promote the benefits of shopping locally.
As part of the initiative Experience It Here! Sunderland’s Business Improvement District, will be encouraging visitors and residents to visit the city’s independent stores and see what they have to offer.
“Independents’ Day gives us the perfect opportunity to really showcase what our unique city has to offer,” said Ken Dunbar, Chief Executive of Sunderland BID.
“Sunderland is such a great shopping destination, not only is the city home to a number of high-street giants, it also has a huge variety of specialist stores.
“Our local retailers are so important to the city’s economy so it’s great to be able to celebrate them.”
