THE SKY’S the limit at Sunderland’s the Bridges next week, with the centre running its own special tributes to all things airborne.
As the city prepares for its annual International Airshow, the Bridges is creating a four day event to support the action, giving shoppers the opportunity to take part in a range of fun activities.
A giant installation will be suspended from the ceiling of the shopping centre from July 23 – 26 and although the centre management are keeping the actual details a surprise until the last minute, they promise shoppers will be wowed.
There’s also be an opportunity for youngsters to “fly” their own plane – with a runway being created on the floor at Central Square and free toy foam planes given out.
Youngsters will be asked to take part in a competition to see how far along the runway they can “fly” their planes with a prize for the longest distance.
But even those who don’t win will still take home a gift as they are able to keep their toy plane once it’s been thrown.
A special photo board will also be in place for visitors to put their heads through and take a picture, with prizes available for those who tweet their images, with the additional attraction of a face painter on Saturday.
“The airshow is one of the biggest events on the Sunderland calendar and we couldn’t let it pass without getting involved,” said Andy Bradley, Centre Director at the Bridges.
“We’re giving youngsters the opportunity to see how skilled they are on our special runway and we’ve also got an amazing air-related installation in place which we are sure people won’t want to miss.
“We want to keep it a surprise until the very last minute but we think visitors will be thrilled when they see it.
“We are looking forward to welcoming many of the visitors coming to the airshow to the Bridges over the weekend.”
