Award winning renewable energy company – Saving Energy North East – is on a roll after securing another major solar PV installation project.
Based in Northumberland, the company has been awarded a new contract to install solar panels to up to 1,000 council properties in Darlington well into the New Year.
Appointed by Darlington Borough Council, the company will work alongside Cumbrian based solar PV specialists Global Heat Source to deliver the programme.
The scheme invites council tenants in the Darlington borough area to sign up to have solar PV installed to their properties – absolutely free of charge.
Speaking about the contract win, Garry Coulson, Managing Director at Saving Energy North East said: “We are delighted to be working on this project which will see council tenants significantly reduce their electricity bills by up to 50%.
“Our mission when establishing the company was to help bring the most vulnerable people out of fuel poverty whilst helping to save the environment through reducing carbon emissions – and its contract wins like this that allows us to do just that.”
Tenants are being urged to sign up to the scheme as soon as possible as all installations need to be completed before the proposed government plans to cut the feed in tariff – potentially by the end of March – meaning tenants need to take advantage of the offer before it ends.
Letters have been sent to tenants promoting the benefits of signing up to receive free solar. It is anticipated that through having solar installed, tenants can make an estimated annual saving of around £200 per year.
“We hope that the residents will grab this opportunity while it lasts,” Garry added, “It really is a win-win situation for residents, all they have to do is register an interest and a full survey will be booked. The installation will be carried out swiftly and with minimal disruption.”
And the contract win comes on the back of a £3m tender win secured by the companies Essex based sister company, Saving Energy, to install 358 properties per year with external wall insulation (EWI).
Awarded by London based Housing Association – Family Mosaic – the contract will see the company installing EWI in one of the most deprived areas of London, which will see tenants make significant savings on their fuel bills.
Garry further commented: “It’s great that we are being recognised for our capabilities by companies and local authorities such as Family Mosaic and Darlington Borough Council. Our ongoing commitment to helping people save money on their energy bills is clearly being recognised, and we will continue with our dedicated efforts.”
Established in 2013 following on from the success of its Essex based sister company Saving Energy, the North East business now employs 30 people, offering a full end to end service, the renewable energy company provides and installs a full suite of energy efficiency measures from solar PV and thermal, biomass and boiler changes right through to LED lighting and external wall insulation. The company offer their services to homeowners, councils, housing associations and businesses.
