Redcar-based law firm, Cygnet Law, has renewed its commitment to supporting the local community by signing up to the Law Society’s Pro Bono Charter.

The Law Society is an independent professional body for solicitors which aims to uphold rules and maintain standards within the law profession.

The Charter is a statement of commitment that legal practitioners are invited to sign up to in order to demonstrate their commitment to delivering free legal advice to those who cannot afford it and meet the appropriate criteria.

Cygnet Law has delivered Pro-Bono, or work undertaken without receiving payment, for a number of years, including supporting victims of domestic violence attending drop-in sessions run by Eva Women’s Aid.

The firm has now taken the opportunity to formally identify itself as offering the service.

Individuals in need of Pro Bono assistance will now be able to find Cygnet Law on the Law Society website, and contact them to come in for a consultation.

Stacey Phoenix, a Solicitor for Cygnet Law, said: “Cygnet Law works with many people in the local community and is dedicated to ensuring that everyone has access to the legal assistance they need, regardless of income. We have taken Pro Bono cases for a long time, and we’re delighted that we’re now able to be listed with such a prestigious body.

“There are people who genuinely need legal support, and don’t have the means to pay for it, which is why it’s essential for law firms like ourselves to offer this service. We also offer free 30 minute appointments to anyone, whether they are eligible for Pro Bono or not, so that clients can come and discuss their needs with us and decide if we’re the right firm for them, without worrying that it is costing them money.”
