North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

The Dundas Sci-Fi and Comic Event

Star Wars Stormtroopers, Darth Vader, a full-size Dalek and a top comic book illustrator are set to be the star attractions at the Dundas Sci Fi and Comic Event in Middlesbrough’s Dundas Shopping Centre on Saturday 11 November from 10am to 4pm.

The 99th Garrison, the largest UK independent Star Wars based costume group, will be bringing Darth Vader, Storm Troopers and other characters from the hit film series to help raise money for the children’s charity Dreamflight by posing for photographs.

There will be a full-size replica Dalek from TV’s Dr Who moving around the Indoor Market and famed comic book illustrator Jeff Anderson will be appearing at InterStellar Comics’ unit in the Indoor Market from 10am until 2pm.  Based in the North East, Jeff has worked on Transformers and Judge Dredd comic novels among many others in his 30 year career.  He is available for signings and sketches.

On top of this, there will be more than 20 Science Fiction and Fantasy themed stalls selling a range of unique gifts, as well as a face painter for kids and adults.

Organised by Jon Dea, the man behind other successful local markets and events such as Kirkleatham Sci Fi and Comic Con and the Dundas Handmade and Vintage market, the free Dundas Sci Fi and Comic Event will have fun for all the family.  Mr Dea says: “Whatever interests you about Sci-fi or fantasy, there is going to be something for everyone at the Dundas Sci-Fi and Comic event, with characters to meet, plenty to look at, and fellow enthusiasts to talk to.”

Dundas Market Manager David Harris says: “While they are browsing the sci-fi and fantasy, our visitors can also sample some hot food, sweets, treats, breads and cakes from Jean’s Kitchen, Indy’s Grub To Go, The Sweet Corner, Cooplands and Brickyard Bakery, as well as taking a look at Forbidden Planet, Games Workshop, Kindamagic, The Festival Shop, Boyes, B&M, and all our other retailers.”

Customer car parking is available in the 178-space Dundas Shopping Centre basement car park, accessed off Wilson Street.  Further information from www.dundasshoppingcentre.co.uk or via @DundasShopping on Facebook and Twitter.
