People in Northumberland are being given the chance to find out more about plans to upgrade a 13 mile section of the A1, creating a dual carriageway on the entire stretch of the route between Newcastle and Ellingham.
The planned Highways England improvements will provide additional capacity, and improve journey times and safety while supporting economic growth in the region.
The existing single carriageway sections will have extra lanes added between Morpeth and Felton and between Alnwick and Ellingham. Junction upgrades, overtaking lanes and improvements to pedestrian crossings north of Ellingham are also being looked at.
A series of public awareness events about the scheme are taking place later this month, with the first event being held at Morpeth Town Hall on Tuesday 17 May.
Highways England project manager Nanette Hoyle said:
We would really like people to come along to one of the public awareness events which we are holding at different locations along the A1 in Northumberland.
These events are a chance for local people to meet the project team, find out more about the proposals and give us their feedback on what we have done so far.
