Ten students from Richmond School and Sixth Form College will play for the North Yorkshire squad after successfully completing rigorous trials.

Six will play in the U16 squad and four in the U18s in matches against teams from across the region.

Richmond School and Sixth Form College has an enviable record for footballing success with countless league and cup awards in the trophy cabinet.

Coach Jonathan Kellett said: “To have this many boys from one school in the county squads is virtually unheard of. All the players are used to success and many have been playing together for years retaining dedication, passion and love for the game.”

U16s captain Sean Thompson, 15, said: “We have been playing together for a long time so our game feels natural. The boys have also showed a high skill level and put in plenty of hard work so they thoroughly deserve their places in the county squad.”

U18s captain Joe Shields, 17, added: “I played for county last year and it is a big step up in terms of standards and intensity but nothing our players can’t handle. It is a real achievement for the school to have so many players in the county sides but they are a great set of players and have earned this opportunity.”
