Northumberland Freemasons have pushed the boat out by giving several recent donations totalling £7,500 to Hexham Juniors Rowing Club, affirming their commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting community involvement. This support includes an initial £3,000 donation, £500 from Hextoldsham Lodge, and additional contributions of £2,000 each to Jacob Lloyd and Emma Nicholson, two promising young athletes within the club.

The support of Hexham Juniors Rowing Club reflects Northumberland Freemasons’ commitment to fostering youth development and strengthening community ties. Hexham Juniors, known for its inclusivity and positive environment, provides young athletes aged 12 to 18 with opportunities to build confidence, learn teamwork, and refine their skills. With a thriving junior section of 40 members, the club’s success at events like the National Schools Regatta is a testament to the hard work of its athletes and coaches. Most recently, the club’s J16 Coxless Quad team achieved a silver medal at the regatta—an impressive accomplishment that demonstrates their dedication.

The Freemasons’ contributions come at a pivotal time, as Hexham Juniors faces the rising costs of competitive rowing. Both athletes and coaches often shoulder their own travel, accommodation, and equipment expenses. The donations will ease some of this financial strain, enabling the club to offer enhanced opportunities for all its members without financial barriers.

Jacob Lloyd, a dedicated member of Hexham Juniors, has been offered a place in the prestigious British Rowing Diploma in Sporting Excellence program, which he will pursue alongside his A-Level studies. This programme offers Jacob elite training and development, but the associated costs, including a boat, equipment, and travel, present challenges. Northumberland Freemasons provided a £2,000 donation to help Jacob meet these costs, allowing him to fully immerse himself in his training and competitions.

Emma Nicholson, another talented member of Hexham Juniors, has also received £2,000 to support her rowing journey. This funding will cover essential costs, allowing Emma to continue representing the club in both local and national competitions. These contributions will help the athletes pursue their rowing ambitions and represent Hexham Juniors on the national stage. Emma has also been offered a place on the British Rowing Diploma in Sporting Excellence programme.

Head of Northumberland Freemasons, Ian Craigs said:

“We look forward to seeing both Jacob and Emma thrive as they work toward their dreams, and we are honoured to play a role in their journeys. Significantly the British Rowing Diploma in Sporting Excellence programme comprises only 20 male and 20 female athletes and to have two from Hexham is a wonderful achievement.

The Freemasons remain dedicated to supporting local youth and empowering them to represent our community with pride and resilience.”

The Provincial Grand Lodge of Northumberland, through the Richard Henry Holmes Masonic Benevolent Fund, donates approximately £160,000 each year to local charities and good causes, supporting a range of initiatives from food banks to youth development projects throughout Northumberland, Newcastle, and North Tyneside. This commitment helps boost the impact of worthwhile projects and positively shapes communities across the region.

Northumberland Freemasons buildings can be found throughout the Province, including in Alnwick, Amble, Ashington, Bedlington, Bellingham, Berwick, Blyth, Byker, Cramlington, Haltwhistle, Hexham, Mickley, Morpeth, Newbiggin, Jesmond, Newcastle, North Shields, Seahouses, Seaton Delaval, Shiremoor, Throckley, Wallsend, Whitley Bay, and Wylam.
