Get Set for the Tees Pride 10K Charity Challenge

Screen Shot 2015-07-16 at 11.16.44THE countdown is on as runners limber up for one of the region’s best loved events.

The Taylor Wimpey Tees Pride 10k and mima 3k Fun Run go under starter’s orders on Sunday, September 6, with organisers hoping for a record turn-out.

The event – now in its eleventh year – will build on the success of the biggest ever Cleveland Centre 5k Riverside Run which drew thousands of runners and walkers in May.

And once again thousands of runners will be pounding the streets to raise much needed funds for a wide variety of local and national good causes.

Run Middlesbrough’s Sport Events Charities Team (SECT) will be out in force, with Daisy Chain and Hope for Holly named as this year’s joint lead charities.

Daisy Chain Chief Executive Judith Haysmore said: “We are delighted to be one of the lead charities for the Tees Pride 10K and 3K race.

We are big supporters of the event and our Daisy Chain Team have a lot of fun taking part each year.

“Being one of the lead charities will allow us to raise vital funds for our families and also raise awareness of autism and the support we are able to provide.”

Andy Gowland from Hope for Holly said: “Events like the Taylor Wimpey Tees Pride 10k and mima Fun Run enable us to continue to offer support to families and children going through the unthinkable.

“Running for Hope for Holly is running to make these poorly children smile and giving them the opportunity to make lasting memories with their families.”

Councillor Lewis Young, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: “The Taylor Wimpey Tees Pride 10k has been one of the best events of its kind in the region for over a decade, and it continues to go from strength to strength.

“That makes it ideal for walkers and runners who want to make a real difference to a great many charities and good causes, both locally and nationally.

“Hundreds of thousands of pounds have been raised since the event started, while encouraging people to improve their fitness and lead healthier lifestyles.

“I’m looking forward to yet another record-breaking event that will do the town proud.”
