Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Golfers’ fundraising drive raises thousands for hospice

GOLFERS have raised thousands at a popular annual golf tournament held in aid of a pioneering North-East charity.

The Dawsongroup team of four triumphed over stiff competition at the Butterwick Hospice Care Charity Golf Day, held at Wynyard Golf Club, near Stockton.

More than 50 golfers from 13 of the hospice’s corporate supporters took part in the tournament at the European Tour course. Dawsongroup were closely followed by Taylor Wimpey in second place, and LJJ Ltd in third.

The event is expected to raise more than £8,000 for the charity, with money still coming in. Since it was first held in 2009, the golf day has raised more than £120,000 towards the Hospice’s work.

Hospice Fundraiser, Ashleigh Wood, said: “The annual golf day is always a great opportunity for us to meet up with our amazing corporate supporters, for them to meet each other and have some fun, and for all of us to raise money towards Butterwick’s vital services together.

“As always, it’s been a fantastic day – it does help to have such lovely weather. The Wynyard Club has been brilliant, and everyone’s have an enjoyable day. We’re very grateful to everybody who has helped make it happen and contributed to raising such a brilliant amount for hospice care.”

Longest Drive was won by Jai Rennison, and the Nearest to the Pin competition went to Gary Henry. Additional funds were also raised with a Beat the Pro challenge, a raffle, a blind card, and Guess the Number of Tees in the Jar competition.

  • The annual event will next take place in September 2023. For information on upcoming events, visit www.butterwick.org.uk, or call 01642 628930.
