A locally based homebuilder has donated hi-vis vests, for the fourth time, to two schools within the communities where it has new home developments to mark Road Safety Week which takes place from 17th to 23rd November.

Miller Homes, which has developments across the region, donated vests to Cambrai Primary School in Catterick, close to its Poppy Gardens development due to open imminently and to Westgarth Primary School in Marske-by-the-Sea, close to its Beaconfield Rise development which opened just weeks ago.

The child size hi-vis vests are there to make children who walk to and from school more visible. In addition, the vests are also used to help support the schools when taking the children off site on visits and trips, to make them easily identifiable.

“Road Safety Week, hosted by BRAKE is a week dedicated to raising awareness of how to stay safe on our roads and reduce the number of incidents which occur,” said Donna Clark, Sales Director, Miller Homes Teesside. “With that in mind, we’re delighted to support schools in our local communities to help keep children safe as the nights draw in particularly and to learn from a young age how to stay safe on our roads.”

Tips for children to consider when out walking include:

  • Finding a safe place to cross away from parked cars and using designated crossings wherever possible
  • Not using mobile phones or having headphones in so you can hear what is happening around you
  • Avoiding shortcuts in darker streets just to save time

“We want the children in our communities to be as safe as possible but understand that walking to school unsupervised is something many do as they get a little older,” said Donna. “By learning the rules of the road, and safe walking practices when they are younger, and the addition of a hi-vis vest, we hope that they will reap the benefits and enjoyment of walking whilst staying safe.”

Miller Homes currently has ten developments across the Teesside region offering a wonderful selection of three-, four- and five-bedroom homes.
