Teesside University has established a new scholarship with Jacksons Law Firm to boost opportunities for the next generation of legal professionals in the North East.
Jacksons Law Firm, which has offices in Stockton-on-Tees and Newcastle, has pledged £6,000 to launch the inaugural Jacksons Law Scholarship at Teesside University.
It will be awarded in autumn 2022 to an incoming undergraduate student based in the North East who is undertaking the LLB (Hons) Law course within Teesside University Law School.
The scholarship aims to improve access to higher education for local students through financial support.
As the latest addition to Teesside University’s catalogue of fantastic scholarship opportunities, the Jacksons Law funding will help support law students through their studies and into successful careers.
The LLB (Hons) Law programme develops skilled legal professionals who benefit from high-quality training, progression opportunities and access to cutting-edge on-campus facilities including a mock court and Law Clinic.
Angela King, Head of Department for Law, Policing and Investigation, is excited to launch this scholarship, which she says will improve what is already a very strong offering at Teesside University Law School.
She commented: “We are delighted to have developed this new scholarship with Jacksons Law Firm to provide further opportunities for local people and encourage improved access to higher education training.
“Teesside University Law School has built robust links with a wide range of legal firms and organisations over the years, and we welcome this latest offer of support from Jacksons Law Firm.
“This scholarship will act as a catalyst for widening participation in law within the region and we look forward to awarding it this autumn.”
Jacksons Law Firm has been providing legal services to North East people, business and communities for over a century, and has established a reputation for legal excellence.
The firm has worked in partnership with Teesside University and its Law School for a number of years, offering work experience to law students before introducing this new scholarship.
Erica Turner, a partner at Jacksons Law Firm, said: “We are very proud to be supporting Teesside University’s new scholarship and excited to continue our relationship with the Law School.
“I graduated from Teesside University in 2006 and am delighted to now be in the position of being able to offer opportunities to students similar to those that were presented to me during my degree.
“Students in Teesside are lucky to have the option to study at one of the best higher education centres in the UK and I hope this new partnership allows students to recognise that they do not need to leave the region to obtain a first-rate education and a fantastic career opportunity.”
