Planned roadworks in the North East – summary for Monday 25 June to Sunday 1 July 2018

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 22 June but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible. 

A1 Elford junction, Northumberland

There will be overnight traffic signals at Elford Junction Friday 29 June from 8pm until 6am for sign renewal work.

A19 Silverlink, North Tyneside

There will be overnight north and southbound carriageway closures between Howden/ Wallsend junction and Silverlink junction between 8pm – 6am from 25 – 27 June. From 27 – 30 June there will be overnight north and southbound carriageway closure between Howden/ Wallsend  junction and Holystone junction between 8pm – 6am. There will also be partial ring closures on the Silverlink roundabout form the 25 – 30 June.

24 hour 30mph speed restriction with narrow lanes remain throughout the scheme. This project is due for completion in March 2019.

A19 Holystone, North Tyneside

There will be a 24 hour closure of the designated lane on the northbound exit slip road until Sunday 9 December 2018 for Local Authority development work.

A1 junction 70 to junction 73, Gateshead

There will be phases of overnight slip road closures between junction 70 and junction 73; Monday 25 June to Thursday 28 June from 8pm until 6am there will be a northbound entry slip road closure at junction 73, Thursday 28 June to Friday 29 June from 8pm to 6am there will be a northbound exit slip road closure at Junction 72 and Friday 29 June to Saturday 30 June there will be a southbound entry slip road closure at Junction 72 for resurfacing work.  This project is due for completion 19 July 2018.

A1 junction 69 Consett Route, Gateshead

There will be a full closure of the northbound exit slip road at junction 69 Saturday 30 June from 8pm until 5.30am for safety barrier repair work.

A1M junction 59 to junction 60, County Durham

There will be 24/7 lane 2 closures with hard shoulder and Lane 1 running in place north and southbound from junction 59 to junction 60, for concrete barrier installation work. On the night of Friday 29 June there will also be night time northbound closure under the J59(Coatham) interchange, with traffic being directed off at J59 exit slip and returning to the A1M northbound via the on slip at J59(Coatham) to facilitate carriageway repair. The diversion route will be signed on the nights of Monday 18 June and Tuesday 19 June, there will also be night time alternate north & southbound full closures of the A1M junction 59 to junction 60 to facilitate across carriageway excavations. A fully signed local diversion route will be in place. This project is due for completion March 19. There will also be a 50mph speed restriction in place for the duration of the works. 

A1M junction 51 Leeming to junction 50 Ripon

There will be 24/7 lane 2 and 3 closures with hard shoulder and Lane 1 running in place on the southbound carriageway between junction 50 to junction 51. Lane 3 of the northbound carriageway will be closed 24/7 with traffic running in lanes 1and 2. The lane closure will be in place until the end of June 18. From Monday 25 June to Sunday 1 July each night there will be overnight full southbound carriageway closure from 8pm to 6am for works to the safety barrier in the central reserve, and preparation for northbound carriageway resurfacing works that start in July.  A fully signed local diversion route via A6055 will be in place during the overnight closures of the southbound carriageway.  The resurfacing of the northbound carriageway is due for completion November 18.

A1M junction 52 Catterick, North Yorkshire

There will be a 24 hour lane 3 closure northbound from Monday 25 June to Wednesday 27 June for remedial work.

A66 West Browson Bank to Carkin Moor, North Yorkshire

There will be phases of overnight traffic signs from Monday 25 June to Saturday 30 June 2018 from 8pm until 6am for survey work. This project is due for completion 10 July 2018.
