Visitors to Enchanted Parks will have a variety of street food to choose from this year after it was announced that a mini HWRKMRKT will be at the popular after-dark arts adventure.

HWKRMRKT is a group of independent food and drink traders usually based in shipping containers at Hillgate Quay in Gateshead at By The River Brew Co – which has also come on board as a sponsor of Enchanted Parks. The traders confirmed are: Scream For Pizza, Chuchos, Medhead, Fat Hippo, Nan Bei and North Shore Coffee Co.

This year will also see a bigger and better craft fair for visitors to enjoy with a range of local independent businesses confirmed. These include Baltic Shop, The Crafthood, Powder Butterfly, Re-styled by St Oswald’s, Thought Foundation and Bonkers about Alice.

Enchanted Parks is an annual event which sees specially commissioned artists bring to life Gateshead’s beautiful Saltwell Park. This year it takes place for six nights – from Tuesday 4 – Sunday 9 December 2018.

Dave Stone, Director at By The River Brew Co., said: “We are thrilled to be taking a taste of the HWKRMRKT to this enchanting event. It will be a real pleasure to assist in serving local independent street food to attendees in Gateshead, our spiritual home.”

Entitled The House of Lost & Found this year’s Enchanted Parks tells the story of a fair which has travelled throughout the centuries always looking for lost objects and trying to return them to their owners. Watch the magical trailer for The House of Lost & Found here.

The creative team behind The House of Lost & Found are Maddie Maughan, Creative Producer, and Susan Mulholland, Creative Writer, who join an experienced team organising Enchanted Parks, including Vikki Leaney, Senior Festival and Events Manager at NewcastleGateshead Initiative, and Karolynne Hart, Cultural and Arts Programme Officer at Gateshead Council.

Vikki Leaney, Senior Festival and Events Manager at NewcastleGateshead Initiative, added: “We’re thrilled to welcome HWKRMRKT to Enchanted Parks – the traders’ amazing street food is well known throughout the region and will appeal to the wide range of audiences that visit the event. We’ll also have an increased craft fair offering for visitors to enjoy with ten independent traders already confirmed, including the ever-popular Baltic Shop.

“We’re really excited with the new theme for this year and tickets are selling fast, especially at the weekends. We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors to a magical experience this winter.”

Enchanted Parks is funded by Arts Council England and Gateshead Council. It is developed and commissioned by NewcastleGateshead Initiative in partnership with Gateshead Council as part of NewcastleGateshead Initiative’s festivals and events programme.

Enchanted Parks is part of Light up The North; a consortium of seven light festivals taking place across the North of England. Dalton Park has again been confirmed as a sponsor for Enchanted Parks 2018.

Councillor Angela Douglas, Gateshead Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure, said: “Enchanted Parks continues to be a hugely popular event and one that we are extremely proud of in Gateshead. Each year it brings together people from across the region to enjoy an amazing festive spectacle.

“Along with an exciting new theme, it’s great to be able to welcome a mini HWRKMRKT and a bigger craft fair for visitors to also enjoy.”
