Some of the most highly anticipated plays of the year are being beamed live to the Gala Theatre this spring, with tickets already selling fast.
People looking for a special way to spend Valentine’s Day can book tickets for Twelfth Night, a tale of unrequited love widely regarded as Shakespeare’s greatest comedy.
The RSC Live screening features Adrian Edmondson in the role of Malvolio and Kara Tointon – who won critical acclaim for her role of Eliza in the West End production of Pygmalion – taking on the role of Olivia.
Later in the month, Sienna Miller stars in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, an NT Live production of Tennessee Williams’ poetic story of a family’s fight for survival on Thursday, 22 February.
The twentieth century masterpiece also sees Jack O’Connell, who won the BAFTA Rising Star Award for his appearance in Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken, play Brick in the production which is a return to the stage for director Benedict Andrews following his smash hit A Streetcar Named Desire.
Two more Shakespearian classics will be screened as part of the spring programme, starting with Julius Caesar on Thursday, 22 March.
Nicholas Hytner’s star-studded production includes Michelle Fairley – best known for her role as Catelyn Stark in Game of Thrones – Ben Whishaw, David Calder and David Morrissey, screened live from the new Bridge Theatre in London.
RSC Live then presents its contemporary production of Macbeth, starring Christopher Eccleston and Niamh Cusack, on Wednesday, 11 April.
